POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR, Earth Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. We seek to fill a postdoctoral position in the Climate Modeling Alliance (CliMA), a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and applied mathematicians, spanning MIT, Caltech, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The postdoctoral scholar will collaborate with the MIT team to develop the ocean component of a new climate model in the Julia programming language that is flexible, easy to use, and runs on laptops, supercomputers, and GPUs. Ways the postdoctoral scholar could contribute include but are not limited to, (1) Implementation of novel numerical methods for climate modeling; 2) Development of parameterizations of sub grid-scale processes leveraging data assimilation and machine learning approaches; (3) Innovative computational studies of ocean processes controlling key climate features that leverage the unique capabilities of the CliMA model. A recent Spectrum article and the CliMA website provide more information about the overall goals of the project.
