RESEARCH SPECIALIST, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory-Julia Lab (multiple positions), to join a lab focused on Julia tools for high-performance computing, scientific machine learning, and a number of applications, including climate modeling, energy efficiency, electronic structures, ecology, space weather, and more. Responsibilities include researching, designing, testing, evaluating, implementing, and managing software programs and working on identifying areas for modification in existing programs, subsequently developing modifications and writing and implementing efficient code; developing software for one or more Julia Lab applications noted above; developing demos and writing technical reports for funding agencies; assisting with writing scientific papers for professional conferences and grant proposals for future projects; presenting research results at conferences and other institutions; maintaining software for the general open-source community as needed; interacting with Julia Lab personnel; coordinating with agencies such as DARPA to be sure everyone's needs are met and to keep the project going smoothly; developing and maintaining research project websites; consulting with external collaborators to determine the possibility of partnering on research projects; and identifying sentences or concepts that no existing approaches can handle. Job Requirements: REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in mathematics/scientific computing/computer science/computer engineering or a related engineering field; skills and experience in high-performance computing and/or a key application equivalent to Ph.D. level; experience developing code intended for a large user base; strong communications skills to support weekly sponsor meetings via demos, videos, and PowerPoints and to support contractor development; strong Julia experience as evidenced by, for example, extensive Julia software on GitHub; management skills; ability to quickly adapt to changing work requirements and to motivate others to swiftly change directions; and professional software development experience.
