Job Description

 

This position is responsible for the instruction of Mathematics courses. TVCC is looking for a Math instructor who has a background in Developmental Math, Career Technical Math and Statistics or other related disciplines. Instruction will include classroom lecture and lab; classes may be delivered on-ground, virtually or via the web.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Math, Math Education or closely related field in other disciplines and teaching experience either part-time or full-time at the High School or College level. Must be open to effective and appropriate uses of technology in the curriculum. Must be able to use computer technology to enhance instruction, including the use of a Learning Management System.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PhD or D.Ed. in Math or Math Education. Three or more years of teaching experience at the Community College or 4-year College/University level. Experience with teaching statistics courses or the use of statistics in the workforce and/or evidence of having taken statistics courses at the college level. Experience with Fundamentals of Elementary Math (Math 211, 212, and 213). Bilingual (English-Spanish) applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide classroom instruction in Math classes, including lower-level algebra classes.
  • Create a positive learning environment for students using innovative, effective and diverse teaching methods to engage students in their own learning and enhance student success.
  • Open to working with local high schools and other partners to provide dual-credit and other incentives to enroll at TVCC.
  • Participate in and assist with organizing co-curricular activities such as student activities and recruiting events.
  • Utilize classroom assessment techniques to improve instruction.
  • Participate in the student advising and college-wide efforts to improve student retention and success.
  • Evaluate and document student progress; keep students apprised of progress.
  • Participate in weekly/monthly departmental meetings, in-service training and activities, and other required training. Participate as a member of working committees dealing with instruction, student matters, and/or college-related concerns.
  • Assist in curriculum and program development incorporating current educational theories, research, and outcomes assessment strategies. Select appropriate texts, software, and supplemental materials.
  • Maintain office hours sufficient to meet the needs of students for consultation and advisement as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural (including traditional, non-traditional and international students) and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to teach night and weekend courses as needed.
  • Quarterly General Education (ILO) assessments.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve teaching and learning, with an emphasis on improving achievement outcomes for historically underserved student populations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This position is a full time, tenure-track, 10-month, Faculty bargaining-unit position. Starting annual salary is $50,470 (new hire may be eligible for additional steps on the salary schedule according to prior work and education experience). This position is for the 2023-24 school year. Position begins in September 2024Schedule may include late afternoons and/or evenings, instruction on-line, or in a “smart/interactive” classroom.
